Dear Friends, Patients and Future Patients,

Welcome to Active Choice Healthcare! This is an exciting time to be practicing medicine. The science, technology, and general knowledge in medicine are expanding at absolutely astounding rates. Unfortunately, in today’s Health Care world, the Doctor-Patient relationship, that one thing that distinguishes the practice of medicine from all other science, has been whittled down to a skeleton of what it used to be. A trusting relationship should be the bedrock of our care for patients. However, with our reliance on third party payors, patients are increasingly treated as numbers, or anonymous members of a “population,” rather than as individuals. I have heard the longings from many patients about the good ol’ days when their family doctor truly knew them, and cared not just for them, but about them. Those are big shoes to fill, but I am here to try to reinvent that old-time country doctor, with 21st century technology and medicine.

My Background:

Dr. Kropp is a Board Certified Family Medicine Physician. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado. He worked for a number of years in a variety of jobs ranging from Chemical Research to Clinical Medical Research to Emergency Medical Services before committing to his true calling as a Physician. He earned his Doctorate of Medicine from St. Matthew’s University in Grand Cayman, BWI where he was awarded the Academic Achievement Award and a Teaching Assistant position. His Residency training was completed at The New Hampshire Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. He practiced for 6 years at Penacook Family Physicians prior to establishing his own solo practice in January 2016.

Dr. Kropp enjoys practicing a full spectrum of Family Medicine, especially caring for multiple generations of the same family. He is skilled in office based procedures, including minor skin surgeries and musculoskeletal injections, with a special interest in Sports Medicine. As a former National Champion Cyclist, he understands the athlete’s mindset and how it can influence the comprehensive care of elite athletes and weekend warriors alike. He is passionate about helping individuals set and achieve their own goals for an active lifestyle, and continually tries to achieve a healthy balance between his work and home life. He enjoys spending time with his family, including his three children. He has more hobbies than he has time for, including rock climbing, cycling, woodworking, and construction of a replica 1965 AC Cobra roadster. He also periodically ponders joining another rock cover band to get his bass guitars off the wall and back onto the stage. Dr. Kropp’s varied background and relaxed approach help him connect with his patients, and he looks forward to meeting you soon!

About Direct Primary Care:

Direct Primary Care (DPC) is an innovative model being embraced across the United States. DPC practices offer a unique membership-based approach. A simple flat rate monthly fee is charged for comprehensive coverage of all primary care services. Adequate monthly fees allow practices to reduce their total number of patients, which supports a higher level of personal care. This eliminates undesired fee-for-service incentives in primary care, which can distort healthcare decision-making by rewarding volume over value.

Patients go to their primary care Doctor for all routine and preventive services like checkups, urgent care and chronic care management. Primary care, operating as it should, can address up to 90% of a patient’s healthcare needs. DPC practices can diminish dependence on more expensive parts of the system, such as specialist care, urgent care, emergency rooms, advanced imaging and hospitals. Insurance is maintained separately to cover hospitalization and more expensive specialty care when needed.

DPC has successfully controlled costs both through prevention of chronic illnesses and by the reduction of administrative expenses, since there are no insurance claims filed for routine healthcare needs.

Benefits of Direct Primary Care:

Predictable and transparent costs with simple billing

There are no hidden or unanticipated charges. Most primary care services are covered by your monthly fee, and any additional charges will be discussed prior to service. There are no complex, confusing insurance bills and no middle men to mark up the cost.

No Co-pays or Deductibles

Since all your appointments, including well checkups, sick visits, chronic care monitoring, and virtual consults are covered by your monthly fee, you never have to hesitate to contact your doctor. If you have a concern, we want you to be able to consult your doctor without worrying about cost.

Speak with your doctor, but avoid the office visit

Since many questions or concerns don’t really require an office visit, we want to make communication directly with your Doctor as easy and convenient as possible. Dr. Kropp is easily accessible by email, text, or soon, by videoconferencing. Patients also have a direct after-hours number to reach Dr. Kropp’s cell phone for those urgent matters.

Discounted Labs, Testing and Supplements

Patients who are uninsured, or have high deductibles benefit from our wholesale priced labs, and in-office testing. We are negotiating similar discounts on xrays, MRI and ultrasound to save you money.

We will offer a selection of pharmaceutical grade nutritional supplements for sale in the office at a steep discount.

Focus on Wellness

Keeping you healthy is our priority. Dr. Kropp will work with you to develop a personalized wellness plan focused on healthy lifestyle & preventive care.

Longer Visits, Less Waiting

Help yourself to a complimentary coffee or tea in our reception area, but don’t expect to get much magazine reading done. We schedule 30-60 minute appointments so that you have enough time, and we stay on time.

Reduced Reliance on Specialists

Because Dr. Kropp takes the time to fully assess problems in the context of the whole patient, many issues can be effectively managed in the primary care setting. Research has shown that patient outcomes can improve and costs can be reduced when generalists practice to the full extent of their training. Dr. Kropp avoids reflexively generating costly referrals that can further fragment a patient’s care. The cost savings of reducing even a single referral can easily offset a full year of Dr. Kropp’s fees, not to mention the time and hassle that can be avoided.

Reduced Emergency Room Utilization

This is another area where relationships are key. Because Dr. Kropp has the time to get to know his patients’ conditions over time, he teaches early recognition of signs and symptoms which may need medical attention. He is directly accessible to patients by phone, through secure technology platforms, or for same or next-day appointments. Thus, we manage small problems before they snowball into larger issues.

House Calls. Really.

The Doctor’s Black Bag is a little bigger these days, but this is one way of caring that modern medicine just can’t improve upon. House calls are available on a case-by-case basis for an additional fee. There is no charge for hospice or nursing home visits.
